No More Babys

Back in January a Californian woman gave birth to 8 babies. She already had 6 children.
Not surprisingly there was quite a reaction to this, with the doctor being investigated and the woman’s grandparents calling her “absolutely irresponsible” and her behaviour “unconscionable“.
The photo here, from the Irish Times, shows a local resident protesting outside the woman’s [...]
A beautiful quartet of typos

I mentioned the large numbers of flyers coming through the letter box and how I scan them to see if they are eligible for this site.
A beauty of a candidate arrived a few weeks ago. At first scan I only saw the “availabul” typo.
When I flipped the flyer over it got worse. It started [...]

We all get tons of flyers (junk mail to many) in our letterboxes each day.
I always give them a look over, to see if there is anything interesting, but also to scan for typos.
Most are error free, but some have small issues (others not so small).
This flyer is from some building contractors. They have a [...]
You say tomato, Tesco says Tamato

On a positive note shopping in my local Tesco is a pleasant experience at 8am on a Monday morning – fruit and veg well stocked, very few customers and no queue at the till.
In the enthuasism to highlight the price of a vegetable fruit, someone mispelt “Tomato.”
I would normally report a typo to the manager [...]
Blue is the new green

A few weeks ago I was collecting my wife and newborn son from Holles Street.
Off to the parking meter with my collection of coins. As I fed the meter I noticed that the instructions tell people to Press Green Button For Ticket but the illustration beside this instruction shows a blue button. Are Dublin City [...]
Enough with the unnecessary apostrophes

I was in Smyths toy shop recently. Along one of the aisles was a note for staff about the evacuation plan in case of a fire.
“Employee’s must walk not run…” – drop the apostrophe and consider adding a comma after “walk.” And don’t capitalise “Point.”
Better still, drop over the to Borders Books and buy a [...]
Opperation

I was walking through Blanchardstown Centre at the weekend. There was a glaring typo on one of the parking signs. Opperation should drop the second ‘p’. Doesn’t anyone check these signs before they are printed? After they are printed? Before they are sent out? I hope the same typos aren’t at Connolly Hospital (groan).
As Blanchardstown [...]
Ingenuity in web design

Recently a new web design company asked those on the boards.ie Webmaster forum to review their website. It was a bloodbath.
The thread started off without a link to the site. As soon as that was rectified the massacre started. The site is so bad that some thought it was a joke.
Are you tired of being [...]
Es not good this time

I was in County Carlow recently, staying at Kilgraney House for my wedding anniversary. Just outside of the dead town that is Bagenalstown we stopped for a walk along the River Barrow. It was here I saw a sign about temporary road works, but it wasn’t spelt quite like that – Temperory Surface Ahead.
I would [...]

I was in D.I.D Electrical yesterday (they leave out the dot after the second ‘D’!), tracking down an elusive micro hi-fi for my mother-in-law’s forthcoming birthday. While calling around their stores one guy said that if the computer showed that the stock count was less than 5 he would not be confident that there were [...]
